Upcycling Glass Bottles - Reed Diffusers

Upcycling Glass Bottles - Reed Diffusers

We love our glass bottles but we suspect you love them too and want to keep hold of them. There are loads of great ways to make use of them once you've finished tasting the lovely liquid inside them, one of which is to make a Reed Diffuser. It's really easy to do, looks great and will allow you to regale family and friends with your upcycling prowess once finished. So here are the steps;

  1. Finish tasting the beautiful liquid inside the bottle
  2. Soak the bottle in warm soapy water; this will help peel the label off as well as clean the glass
  3. Rinse and then allow the bottle to dry
  4. Select your carrier oil; this is a neutral oil that dilutes the scent of the essential oil (see next point). Safflower oil and almond oil are common carrier oils
  5. Select your essential oil. You can choose whatever you prefer, but some classic oil parings are lavender and peppermint, orange and vanilla, chamomile and lavender
  6. Pour 5 parts carrier oil to 1 part essential oil into any container that you can stir the contents in (e.g. a normal measuring cup)
  7. Pour into TheSpiritedClub glass bottle
  8. Place 4 - 8 new reed sticks into the bottle (the sticks should extend a few centimeters from the top of the bottle.

You're nearly there! After an hour, flip the reed sticks upside down; this will saturate both ends and accelerate the process of releasing the scent which should be within the day.

Swirl the contents of the bottle once per week and at the same time, flip the reed sticks upside down.

Add more oils after a month or so (or whenever necessary), whilst at the same time replacing the reed sticks for new ones.

And there you have it; your own Reed Diffuser. You can create as many of these as you want, which given you'll normally get 4 SpiritedClub bottles every month, is a lot of potential Reed Diffusers. Given these normally cost anything from £25 to buy, this is an upcycling project to shout about!
